 Xavi Hernández, the manager of Barcelona, met with midfielder Frenkie De Jong on Sunday in Las Vegas to talk about the player's future with the team, according to a report from Diario AS.



The article states that Xavi explained the problem to Frenkie from his and the club's perspectives: Frenkie is a popular player and would be welcome to continue next season, but he is on exceptionally high salaries and must try to accept a salary decrease to aid the club's finances, the report alleges.

The club's struggle to sign the new additions made this summer is hampered in part by De Jong's wage, which is why a contract to sell Frenkie to Manchester United has already been reached. An increase in earnings and the removal of Frenkie's salary from the books would result from a sale, which would significantly assist Barça avoid Financial Fair Play penalties.

However, the player is unwilling to go, and following their conversation on Sunday, Xavi, the club believes De Jong is aware of the situation and is willing to accept a drastic salary reduction of about 50% in order to stay at Barça.
