Barcelona and Bayern Munich are nearing a deal for the sale of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern Munich want €50m from Barcelona for Lewandowski - The Khaama Press News Agency

Robert Lewandowski's transfer from Bayern Munich to Barcelona is moving forward.

The Athletic is aware that nothing has been finalised, but there is hope in the air over the possibility of the transfer.

Lewandowski, 33, has been at the centre of a transfer controversy ever since he announced in May that he would not be renewing his contract with Bayern and that he wanted to go.

According to The Athletic's source from last Wednesday, personal terms had already been settled, with Barcelona having made the Polish international an offer of €40 million.

The club's president, Joan Laporta, stated last week that Bayern had not yet responded to their offer for Lewandowski.

The financial limitations and necessity to balance the books by the end of June have hindered the Catalan club's summer activities.

They just recently confirmed the free transfers of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie from Chelsea and AC Milan, despite having arrangements in place long in advance.

They followed Barcelona's announcement of the first of their financial "levers," the sale to US company Sixth Street of 10% of their TV rights for the following 25 years for €267 million.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, has 344 goals to his credit in 375 appearances for Bayern, including 98 in the last two seasons.

"My journey with Bayern has come to an end, I cannot envisage future positive cooperation," he stated in May.

"I sincerely hope they won't prevent me from going simply because they can. The most advantageous course of action is a transfer.
